When it comes to education, age is never a limitation. What matters most in learning is the desire to acquire knowledge. This is what Madam Elizabeth Yamoah, a 57 year-old Ghanaian woman, has shown with her latest achievement. Elizabeth Yamoah at her age is a proof to the fact that it is never too late to get educated.
The interesting fact about her story is that she didn’t just seek formal education; she went to a normal basic school where she got registered, attended classes with her young classmates; and wrote her Basic Education Certificate Education.
In her interaction with BBC News Pidgin, Madam Elizabeth Yamoah recalled how she had a severe accident; on her way to the market to buy a school uniform. She said that did not discourage her.
According to Elizabeth: “One Monday, I dressed up in my uniform, took my school bag, and went to Odoben Presby School to be registered,” she narrated. “Because of my age, people were laughing at me but I feel so proud whenever I wear my school uniform. I was motivated by free education.”
“I felt very happy but the teachers and students were all surprised. My favourite subjects are Religious and Moral Education (RME) and Information Communication Technology (ICT).”
According to Elizabeth, her resilience to attend school despite her age must motivate others to do the same.
She is a mother of four and has five grandchildren.
