Apparently, multiple hitmaker, 69-year-old Lionel Richie, would have become a priest. According to him, he changed his mind after an amazing encounter with some adorable ladies.
He said this in an interview with PEOPLE as he discussed his road to stardom and his time with the soul band, Commodores while at the Tuskegee University. He said, “I left my mom and dad’s house to go to Tuskegee University, and I met my Commodore friends there. At the time I was seriously considering being an Episcopal priest. [But] the first time I played with the Commodores, a group of girls screamed. Up until that moment no one, no girl had ever screamed at me.”

This was the moment that changed his life.
He went on to say, “I didn’t play basketball, football, baseball. I played on the tennis team, and no girl ever screamed at the tennis court. It was right after those girls screamed, I remember saying to myself, ‘I don’t think I’m gonna be priest material.’”
Richie said his parents were never thrilled about his dream to go into music, mostly because they didn’t understand the Commodores or that times had changed. Despite his parents dislike for his chosen path, Richie was unwavering and we can all see how he’s turned out.
He is presently promoting his new home décor line, Endless Love. His album, “Live from Las Vegas,” is billed to hit the stores soon as he prepares to go on his “Hello” tour.
