If you recall, we had brought you a story about Jussie Smollett denial of providing the police a false report about homophobic attacks he suffered. Based on that, the Empire star has been indicted by a Chicago jury and slammed 16 felony counts for disorderly conduct.

Late last month the actor was brought in by the Chicago Police Department for what they termed as falsifying his police report. Last Friday, the grand jury of Cook County counted each of his statements in the report as a separate offense. This means that Smollett is likely to face up to 64 years in a correctional facility.

Jussie Smollett charged with felony disorderly conduct, Chicago, USA – 21 Feb 2019

In January, Smollett’s story about being attacked for hate and homophobic reasons grabbed the headlines. About a month later, the Chicago PD arrested him for presenting a false report saying the incident was staged and his assailants, two Nigerian brothers, were paid $3,500 each by the actor. According to the police, the Empire star staged the attack because he was unhappy with his salary on the TV serial and needed a raise.

Smollett denied playing a role in the crime and his attorney has come out to say the indictment is just a bid to make headlines.
