We are beginning to lose too many legends at once.  The hip hop community is still embroiled in grief following the deaths of Black Rob and DMX and now Shock G has passed away.

Last night, the news broke that Digital Underground frontman and musical visionary Shock G; real name Gregory Jacobs, passed away at age 57.

 

Shock G and Digital Underground were well-known for their is classic hits “Kiss You Back” and “The Humpty Dance”. Shock not only helmed Digital Underground. He was also immensely influential in the life and career of Tupac Shakur. He produced Pac’s first single “Trapped” in addition to two more of the biggest records in rap music history in “I Get Around” and “Shed So Many Tears”.

The news of Jacobs’ death was confirmed by Chopmaster J, who co-founded Digital Underground with Shock G in 1987.

He wrote: “34 years ago almost to the day we had a wild idea we can be a hip-hop band and take on the world.

“Through it all, the dream became a reality and the reality became a nightmare for some. And now he’s awaken from the fame. Long live shock G Aka Humpty Hump and Rest In Peace my Brotha Greg Jacobs!!!”

Digital Underground’s security manager, Nzazi Malonga, told the Associated Press that Jacobs, who had struggled with drug addiction, had been found unresponsive in a hotel room in Tampa, Florida.

There are currently no exact details of his cause of death. We would keep you updated on developments.
