Nigerians woke up to a shocker on Christmas day as their President, Muhammadi Buhari along with his Vice, Yemi Osinbajo, and the leader of the ruling party, Adams Osbiomole rendered a Christmas song. They did this to wish their countrymen “Merry Christmas” but instead it sparked a thread of reactions on social media.

Usually it shouldn’t be a big deal but in this case it was. Most of the populace, at least those on social media believe it was just political propaganda and petty shenanigans to work his way back into people’s hearts. The President is running for a second term in the upcoming general elections and most people see it as a way of saving his dwindling political status.

Buhari’s government is renowned for making ethno-religious appointments not favoring the more Christian southern part of the country. One of his biggest critics, Reno Omokri, tweeted his thoughts on the event. A summary of his tweet being the President all of a sudden became born-again because of the elections after he had neglected sharing Christmas messages in previous years.

The President however assured Nigerians of a free and fair election next year while wishing them a peaceful celebrations.
