The Algerian President, Abdul Aziz Bouteflika, has announced that he will not be seeking a fifth term in office. The office of the presidency confirmed this on Monday. His office also announced that it had postponed the general elections.

The elections were originally slated for April 4 but recent protests have resulted in a postponement. One would wonder the reason for the protests. The protesters called for the resignation of the president. The president also announced that his cabinet will be reshuffled. Part of the reshuffling will see a new Prime Minister named as well.
The newly appointed Algerian premier, Noureddine Bedoui, used to be the Minister for Interior. His deputy, Ramtane Lamamra, also served as a diplomatic advisor.
